As of 2001[update] India census,[2] Gangapur had a population of 17,015. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Gangapur has an average literacy rate of 59%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 73%, and female literacy is 45%. In Gangapur, 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.
==History ==
According to old belief, Ganapur is named after the temple of Goddess Ganga. Headquarter of the Sahara tehsil, this town is situated at a distance of about 46 km in the South-West of the district headquarters. It was part of the erstwhile princely state of Gwalior (now in M.P.) prior to independence. It is municipal town.
Gangapur hosts 'Gangapur cooperative ginning mill' and a 'Gangapur cooperative mill',these are working under 'SPINFED' of Rajasthan.Gangapur is the hub for making lorries for ice cream halkers. gangapur supplies lorries to almost whole north and central india.. mahesh plywood and Tej traders are big players in this area.
Animal fair (pashu mela) of gangapur is also very famous, whre many animals are sold and bought by farmers.
